Bachelor of Science in Germany in Germany
Bachelor's 3 years Science
The Bachelor of Science is a flexible undergraduate degree allowing students to major in fields such as biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics or environmental science. Germany suits science students particularly well: several of its universities are centuries-old research institutions with deep expertise across the natural sciences, and a research-led teaching style that carries through from the first year of study.
What’s covered
- Foundational coursework across core scientific disciplines
- A chosen major, and often the option of a minor
- Laboratory practicals and, at some institutes, fieldwork
- Scientific methods, data analysis and academic writing
- Increasing specialisation in later years, building toward a bachelor’s thesis
- Pathways into master’s-level research for students who continue in the same field
Entry requirements
- Recognised secondary-school qualification, with foreign credentials checked via uni-assist for most international applicants
- Relevant prior coursework in mathematics and science is generally expected
- TestDaF or DSH for German-taught programmes; IELTS or TOEFL for the smaller number of English-taught bachelor’s options
- Most public universities charge no general tuition fee, though Baden-Württemberg (home to Heidelberg University) charges non-EU students a fee of roughly €1,500 per semester
